The Melting Pot

A celebration of Worcester’s soul, told through the voices of those who’ve lived, worked, and shaped its history.
It promises to be as heartwarming and diverse as the city itself!

“The Melting Pot” is a vibrant, community-driven project designed to celebrate Worcester’s rich industrial history with a special focus on the stories of South Asian and migrant settlers. Co-created by Worcester’s local community, Worcester Mela, and a talented artistic team, it’s not just about remembering the past, but about bringing it to life in a whole new way.
Imagine the spicy origins of Lea & Perrins Worcester Sauce, the metallic echoes from the Carnaud Metalbox Factory, the delicate creations at Royal Worcester Porcelain, and the careful craftsmanship at Dents Glove Makers—all key industries that shaped Worcester. Through performances and community events, “The Melting Pot” shines a spotlight on the people behind these industries, especially the migrant communities whose stories often go untold.
But it’s not just about remembering history—it’s about changing how we see the city today. By sharing stories from all walks of life and generations, the project aims to make us think about Worcester in a new light, highlighting how it has been shaped by migration and cultural fusion. It’s cross-cultural, multi-generational, and all about making connections.
“The Melting Pot” uses everything from photography to dance, art to music, to gather stories, making everyone feel welcome—whether you’re a shy 1-on-1 storyteller or love sharing in a group. The creative activities, from drawing to dancing, give people a comfortable space to open up, stirring their memories into vibrant narratives. And the project doesn’t stop at listening; it brings these stories to life through vivid illustrations and performances, making the past present again in the most engaging ways.
